Below are answers to the following questions:
- Why Fast?
- What will it be like?
- Is it dangerous to my physical health?
- What will we be praying for?
1. WHAT WILL WE BE PRAYING FOR?
For this particular fast, we will be focusing on the sacrifice of Jesus and what it accomplished for us. We will also reflect on our need for his continual grace in our lives as we identify areas of needed break-through (freedom from addiction, lust, anxiety, depression, anger, lying, etc.).
2. WHY FAST?
Check out this video from our pastoral team talking about the benefits of a tw-day fast we did back in December.
3. IT FOR ME?
Read these blogs to help you guage if this is for you.
4. WHAT WILL THIS LOOK LIKE? WHAT FOODS AM I SUPPOSED TO GIVE UP?
We will fast from food -- in some way -- from Wednesday evening until Friday evening.
Since everyone is different and have different levels of experience with fasting, we have three recommended “versions” of this fast, based on what you are used to. Just choose one and give it a try.
*VERSION 1: PARTIAL FAST
Skip one or two meals on Thursday & Friday, and use that time to pray.
*VERSION 2: JUICE FAST
Blend celery, carrot and apple together and drink throughout the day on Thursday & Friday. *We don’t recommend just any kind of juice, especially if it’s very sweet fruit juice, because that could cause blood sugar crashes, jitters, and more cravings. In other words, the less sweet the easier it will be on your body.
*VERSION 3: BONE BROTH FAST
Drink bone broth for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday, then for breakfast & lunch on Friday. Break the fast Friday night.
*We recommend this brand of bone broth, which you can find on Amazon or Whole Foods, since some other brands taste really bad: Epic Artisan Bone Broth.
*VERSION 4: WATER-ONLY FAST
Don’t eat anything all day Thursay and all day Friday until Friday evening.
Don't drink anything other than water, unsweetened herbal tea, and maybe a little unsweetened black coffee (go easy on this or you could give yourself a stomach ache).
Then there are other kinds of fasts like a fat fast, a wheat-grass fast, etc..
IMPORTANT: It doesn’t matter to use which fast you choose, and nobody will be checking to see how closely you follow it. We just ask that you fast in some way from food if you’re going to do this with us (verses social media or something like that).
5. HOW WILL WE DO IT TOGETHER?
You will receive a few emails per day on Thursday and Friday - morning, afternoon, and evening - with directions on what to pray for and how to channel your hunger for food into a hunger for God - culminating in our Good Friday services.
Be sure to set aside a few times throughout the day -- like when you would normally eat -- to make time to seek God and pray for those things we list.
If you want to join us at one of our prayer gatherings on Thursday, great. If you can’t, no worries.
6. IS THIS SAFE FOR MY HEALTH?
While everyone’s bodies are different, and we are not your health care provider, science is more and more showing how beneficial fasting is for numerous ailments and imbalances in the body (something Scripture has pointed to for a very long time).
